Sion Carnaval Meetup
Join GO-Valais for a festive night out during Carnaval de Sion! The Sion Carnival is “one of the city’s biggest annual events”, transforming the old town into a lively parade of music and colour.
As a local blog notes, Carnival in Sion is a “big affair” – people dress up in costumes, confetti flies and there’s a true party atmosphere. We’re meeting at 18:00 at Le Boulevard (Place du Midi 23, Sion) on Friday the 13th – take advantage of their Happy Hour – then bar-hop in the historic centre before the parade. (GO-Valais is an expat club founded in 2013 to help newcomers connect and enjoy Valais, so everyone is welcome to join in!)
What to Wear & Expect
Costumes are strongly encouraged – they’re the “heart and soul” of Carnaval de Sion. Dust off that wig or funky mask and be creative! Expect colourful parades, live music and elaborate costumes as the parade winds through the town.
We’ll finish the evening at 20:00 by watching the main parade start. Local vendors usually sell sweet pastries and treats on the street, so grab a snack and enjoy the magical atmosphere together.
Everyone – expats, locals and families – is welcome. Let’s celebrate Carnaval together and make some great memories!
Schedule
- 18:00: Meet at Le Boulevard (Place du Midi 23) for Happy Hour drinks.
- 18:30: Start our Sion bar-hop – we’ll visit a few pubs and cafés in town.
- 19:15: Arrive at Café du Nord (Rue du Grand-Pont 33) for more drinks and chat.
- 20:00: Head to the parade route to watch Carnaval de Sion’s big parade begin (in the old town).
